It’s his final A-League game for Western Sydney and Youssouf Hersi wants to leave the club with one monumental parting gift – a maiden championship trophy.

The livewire winger played an integral role in Western Sydney’s history-making inaugural season last year but was suspended for their grand final appearance.

Now, after two season with the club, he wants to finish what he started when the Wanderers face Brisbane in the title decider at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

“We are like a family here and when you leave you want to give something back,” Hersi told AAP.

“We already had the Premiers’ Plate but the special one is this trophy and for me, for my last game here, of course I want to win.

“To leave this club is very hard but this is one of those moments in life when you can do something fantastic and that 25 years later you tell your kids ‘I played a grand final and we won and made history with this club’.

“We had such a good year last year and then this year too, so let’s finish the story. Let’s lift the trophy.”

Hersi is among a host of players leaving the Wanderers, with marquee star Shinji Ono joining Japanese club Consadole Sapporo next season, while midfielder Aarron Mooy and defender Jerome Polenz also look set to part ways with the club.

Hersi remains tight-lipped on where he’s headed next season with Perth Glory widely reported to have penned a deal with the Dutchman.

The 31-year-old former Ajax star admits he wanted to stay at the Wanderers but could not agree terms with the club, which was reportedly unwilling to offer the more than-$500,000 contract he requested.

Hersi says the biggest drawcard at his new club was the certainty that came with his new two-year deal, with Western Sydney only willing to sign him for a year at a time.

“I don’t want to leave but when two sides can’t agree it’s hard, but you have to leave you have to go on with your life,” he said.

“I’ve signed already and I know where I’m going.

“But I’m still with the Wanderers now so I want to end my time here with a good story and lift the trophy and continue in the ACL.”
