South Australian mums Bree May and Jessica Liebich are $250,000 richer after winning the reality series My Kitchen Rules.

The two amateur cooks rose to the occasion to defeat trash-talking travellers Chloe James and Kelly Ramsay by two points in Tuesday’s night’s finale of the Seven Network reality series.

The proud mums received nine from all of the six judges for a score of 54 while James and Ramsay received four nines plus a pair of eights for 52 points.

May and Liebich nailed the five course final with their fourth dish, Ouzo and Tomato Braised Lamb and then their last serving, a deconstructed chocolate and rhubarb tart for dessert.

“Our families are going to be so proud,” May said when the final scores were announced.

May was rock solid throughout the competition while Liebich excelled in some areas but proved to be temperamental under pressure.

It was far from an easy ride into the final for the Adelaide duo.

Twice they faced elimination in sudden-death challenges and on both occasions they won the cook-offs by a point.

“Our whole world has opened up for us now and were so happy to start a new stage of our lives,” May said.

James and Ramsay created friction with their competitive attitude and cutting comments during the series.

The target of many of their barbs were twin sisters Helena and Vikki Moursellas who bowed out in Monday’s semi final.

Boasting they had been to at least 40 countries, James and Ramsay showed on Tuesday they not only talk the talk but they can also walk the walk.

They served up some brilliant meals during the series and in the grand final, although their second dish of the night may have brought about their undoing.

The Confit of Ocean Trout with Broad Bean Pesto they delivered to judge and host Pete Evans and guest judge Guy Grossi had bones in it.

“I had a bone too, which isn’t ideal,” Evans said to Grossi during the tasting.

James and Ramsay hid their disappointment well when the scores were announced.

The WA besties also showed how confident they were as cooks when they congratulated the winning team.

Yet their words of praise could also be interpreted as a dig at the beaten teams in the series who watched on during the grand final cook-off.

“We were happy that we were against the best in the grand final and you proved that tonight,” Chloe said.
